- Go Log & Rustic!
Log and rustic furniture makers are perhaps the greenest folks in the furniture business…. maybe the greenest people in modern business overall.
All one need do is visit a few log and rustic furniture websites (or stores), and you'll note than most companies boast that their timber is harvested from standing dead trees. Rustic (twig and stick) furniture makers rely greatly on the willow plant for their raw material. They don't harvest "dead" willow because it is not necessary. Willow is one rung above a weed on the plant ladder, and it is darn near impossible to kill the plant. When you cut from the stump, more shoots begin growing almost immediately. Talk about an ecologically friendly and renewable resource.
In short, the most eco-friendly furniture is log and rustic and when the PC crowd discovers this we'll start seeing twig benches in corporate foyers and log tables in fine restaurants. I can visualize tags hanging from rustic furniture saying… "No trees, plants or animals were harmed in the making of this item".
These days we pay a lot of lip service to eco-friendly ideas and the greenies push for public awareness and legislation about saving the planet. I have a secret for you, if the word ever gets out about how "green" log and rustic furniture is, it will create a demand that will send rustic furniture prices skyrocketing!
My Disclaimer: This website is not a forum to express a political or scientific view or the "global warming" hysteria we find ourselves embroiled in today. I have seen reputable scientists make claims and offer credible proof on both sides of the global warming issue. Personally, I haven't taken a side because I don't think we have enough convincing evidence to take some of the drastic measures proposed by extremists on either side of the argument.
This does not mean I don't do what I can to reduce my "carbon footprint", recycle and reduce my use of petrochemical fuels and products. I truly believe that we must respect our planet and live more responsibly... I'm just not yet convinced I need to trade my truck in for a bicycle.
