DO-IT-YOURSELF Log furniture & Rustic Projects
DIY log china closetLog trim, and choice Ponderosa "Blue Pine" resulted in a special piece that is the focal point of our great room. This china closet was completed in February, 2005. The server top was cut from a 2" slab of extraordinary wood with bold knots and striking grain. It separates the two cabinets providing a server area that is open and illuminated from above with recessed fixtures and 3-step dimmer is controlled by touching a hinge. This is an over-sized piece so it was built as two separate cabinets (top and bottom). (shown unfinished) |

The plan...
My bride wanted a special china closet to solve a number of storage issues she had. She wanted a place to keep and display her china, so we gave the top cabinet glass doors. In addition, she had some large kitchen appliances like a roaster oven and bread maker that required deep storage space. To solve this problem, we built the base cabinet and didn't include a shelf. This gave her more than 20 square feet of concealed, but convenient storage.
The finished piece is rather large measuring more than six feet tall and equally as long with cabinet depths of almost 16". Obviously, you could build this piece to fit any requirements you might have. With the one exception of the antler door pulls, all materials are readily available from most lumber yards. The log accents we used were acquired from a local fencing company.
