RSS is an acronym for "Real Simple Syndication" (syndicated news feed); a process where authors can publish their work to the Internet community, and website owners can offer fresh new content to their visitors. RSS is kind of like UPI Press or Reuters for individuals. By subscribing to an RSS feed, you automatically receive new articles and information as they are posted. RSS is basically a more convenient way to get the information you want.
We use RSS to talk "rustic". Subscribe to our feed and you'll be notified when we make significant changes to our website, post new articles, or have something worth mentioning to convey. (i.e. We don't use this to report every new website addition, or minor changes)
OR... as an individual user, you'll need an "RSS Reader" or a service that offers RSS (such as My MSN or My Yahoo!). A stand-alone RSS reader allows you to find feeds and subscribe to them, so that content is delivered to you. Some RSS readers include - RSS Bandit, SharpReader and Feedreader.
After you have subscribed to a feed, headlines will begin to flow to your reader. When you see a topic that interests you, just click on it to read the entire article.
If you have a rustic-related website and would you like to have fresh content added on a regular basis? Add the Rustic & Log Furniture RSS feed to your website, here's our RSS link!
NOTE TO WEBMASTERS: As a webmaster you probably know that to configure an RSS feed requires some changes and component additions to your website. There are a few programs available - and we looked at all of them. In our opinion the most robust RSS solution is RSS Equalizer. That is what we use on this site.
By definition, RSS is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing things like news headlines and other web page content. With RSS Equalizer you'll be able to automatically serve fresh new content on a regular basis. And search engines LOVE fresh new content. Which is exactly what we all try to achieve... getting and KEEPING good page rank! In addition, RSS Equalizer offers Free Upgrades For Life.
This technology stuff changes very quickly and it is a full time job trying to keep up with everything. We don't pretend to be experts, but we do try to keep current. If you are having problems understanding this and how your site can benefit from employing an RSS news feed, we'd like to help - please contact us.
